at the accused gunman, jimmy lee dykes. joining me is fox news own jonathan serri. what is the latest. >> police are talking to the suspect through a pvc pipe leading into the underground bunker but releasing few details. today we did get the first glimpse of the school bus that was involved in the shooting. authorities drove the bus out of the neighborhood first and then at the main highway hitched it to the back of a tow truck which carried the bus away. this is the bus that 65-year-old jimmy lee dykes allegedly boarded tuesday afternoon reportedly demanding two child hostages. the school bus driver charles pollen, jr. refused and tried to block the gunman paying the ultimate price. a funeral service is scheduled sunday. the large venue has been reserved to accommodate a crowd of potentially thousands because the bus driver's family received a huge outpouring of support from the comm. >> i believe it will be a place that they will celebrate not the death of mr. pol poland bue life. surely this man died an american hero. >> so an entire community honoring the heroic efforts of this bus driver w

in an underground bunker. this man, 65-year-old jimmy lee dykes. we're starting to hear why he may have killed a bus driver earlier this week but we still don't know why he grabbed a child from that bus. victor blackwell. good morning again. how are investigators actually communicating with this guy in the bunker? >> reporter: good morning, randi. this is really bizarre. however sophisticated setup. we have an animation based on what a neighbor tells us this bunker look like. there is a pvc pipe that goes from the road that leads up to jimmy lee dykes property that goes all the way to this bunker past the mobile home, past the red container, next to his home. through that, they are communicating. it's just as important to mention what authorities do not want to communicate to jimmy lee dykes. they have said to the media several times not to show live tactics, anything that they're doing as they approach the home. they have also not given us many details because they don't want to acknowledge at a time taat a acknowledge at a time d -- agitate dykes. there would be no other reason not to give details

of that bunker which is how they had knowledge jimmy lee dykes had a gun. fbi officials did confirm via e-mail that he thinks dykes was killed by law enforcement. but the fbi is processing the scene and they will release details about the shooting of dykes very soon. he says it's very important that the agency keeps certain tactics private. the feds need to protect their resources. a loud boom was heard on the scene when police stormed the bunker. they felt he was in imminent danger. last night they continued to sweep the property to check for buried bombs while the neighborhood behind me does in fact remain evacuated. martha: that little boy is celebrating a very big day tomorrow. i can't imagine what this has been like for his parents. are there any reports on how he's doing, how he's holding up at this point? >> he's doing very well. he's home or in the hospital with his mother on the eve of his 6th birthday. we are seeing the community come together. they are all signing birthday cards. the vigils we have seen nightly have turned into celebrations. >> it's been really hard on the comm

of that line of trees where this suspect here, mr. jimmy lee dykes, has built this underground bunker where he has taken this child after allegedly shooting this bus driver. remember, this started tuesday. we have an animation which shows what the bunker looks like that he built by himself about eight feet by six feet. it's covered over by four feet of dirt. so basically they're talking to this gentleman and listening to this little boy through a pvc pipe. people are trying to hold on to their focus and trying to not get frustrated with their lack of information, but they're holing on to hope that this man will release this five-year-old boy. >> he doesn't know what's going on. we know that he's crying for his mother and his grandparents. why the shooter does not release this young boy to his family is hard for me to understand. >> we're told he does have electricity. he has a television. we're just hoping that he does have some heat in this bunker that's underneath the ground because it does get very cold here at night and in the morning. guys, back to you. >> gretchen: craig, thanks so much
